Birthday Trip up Table Mountain 2012

For some strange reason, many Capetonians don't seem to know this (in my experience)...
If you are in possession of a valid South African Identity Document, then you can get a free return ticket up Table Mountain on the Cable Car.

That's exactly what I did this year (2012) for my birthday :-)

Being a winter baby (17 July in Southern hemisphere), I was really lucky to have a beautiful sunny birthday afternoon, otherwise Table Mountain wouldn't have been as good an option.  (I'm not a fan of going up in the wind or in bad visibility, I have been up under both circumstances, and once or twice is more than enough to experience this majestic landmark under those conditions).

My birthday fell on a working day, and I had to work the morning, so I didn't have many options for friends to accompany me up...
I ended up going with Kaelin (4 years) and we had a lovely time - just the 2 of us.
Kaelin even got some photography skills with my Android phone camera, and he got a few good shots of me up on the mountain.

We ended up spending a good few hours on the top...
First spoiling ourselves with cake and coffee from the cafe at the top (something to marvel about is the fact that EVERYTHING used up on the mountain is brought up by cable car, and all leftovers/ remainders/ litter must be brought down by cable car again!  That's quite something, isn't it?).
We then followed one of the hiking trails, and I didn't expect Kaelin to make a whole hike around the top, but he did, it was wonderful!

I got fresh air, sunshine and some good exercise - what more could a gal ask for?  Oh, and even a sweet treat on top of the mountain.

Perfect birthday afternoon?

I think so! :)
